NEW DELHI: HMD Global, the company which holds the license to manufacture Nokia branded smartphones, has started rolling out Android 11 update for its Nokia 8.3 5G smartphone. This is the first Nokia smartphone to receive Android 11 update. In October last year, the company said that it will roll out Android 11 update between Q4 2020 and Q1 2021.
Along with the Android 11 update the smartphone will also get the security patch for the month of January 2021. The company will roll out the update in phased manner and the first wave of countries include Bahrain, Belgium, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, France, Hong Kong, Iceland, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Lithuania, Macau, Morocco, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Tunisia, UAE, USA and Vietnam
With Android 11 update the Nokia 8.3 5G users will be able to experience features like default screen recorder, better media controller, native smart home control, one-time permission to apps, security fixes via Google Play and others.
HMD Global has also confirmed that its Nokia 2.2, Nokia 5.3, Nokia 8.1, Nokia 1.3, Nokia 2.4 and Nokia 3.4 will get the update first in Q1 2021, and the update will continue for older phones in Q2 2020.
To recall, the Nokia 8.3 5G is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G processor paired with Adreno 620 GPU. The smartphone sports a .81-inch full HD+ display with 1080×2400 pixel resolution. The display comes with a 120GHz refresh rate and is protected with a coating of Corning Gorilla Glass on top.
Nokia 8.3 comes in two variants — 6GB RAM and 64GB internal storage and 8GB RAM and 128GB internal storage. Users can further expand the storage by adding a microSD card. The handset comes equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and it houses a 4,500 mAh battery with 18W fast charging.
