MUMBAI: With the Covid-19 threat still lurking around, the BCCI is not willing to take a chance. On Wednesday, the Board sent an exhaustive 30-page long list of Covid protocol, including the Standard Operating Procedures (TOI has a copy) to all the teams for the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, which will kick off the severely curtailed 2020-21 domestic season from January 10.
“While Covid-19 has changed the way the BCCI’s domestic cricket matches will be conducted, the BCCI is implementing measures and systems across travel, accommodation, training and matches to ensure that cricket is played in a Covid-19-safe environment,” the Board has mentioned in a document titled as ‘Health and safety protocols for BCCI domestic cricket season.’
Unlike the IPL, the teams have been asked to avoid handshakes or any contacts after the match.
“On-field media is not permitted to interview players post the match. Video conferencing should be considered for press conferences,” say the SOPs.
The guidelines suggest that “electronic team sheets be considered,” instead of paper sheets. They also advise that, “since no public will be allowed in the stadium, there will be more vacant areas and hence the dugouts may be expanded and do not have to remain within the traditional area.”
“New scientific study of cricket balls as potential vectors of coronavirus showed the risk of transmission to be very low.”
