MUMBAI: Things that today’s cricketers have to do in Covid times! TOI has learnt that India pacer Shardul Thakur had to travel 10 hours by car from Ahmedabad to Jaipur to join the Mumbai team’s bio-bubble in Jaipur for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Thakur was released by the Indian team ahead of the third Test at Motera to play for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare. Mumbai, who beat Delhi by seven wickets in their opening game, play Maharashtra in their second match on Tuesday. “To go from the Indian team’s bio-bubble to Mumbai’s bio-bubble directly and avoid quarantining, he couldn’t have taken a flight. So, he chose to travel by road. It speaks about his commitment to the Mumbai team,” a source told this paper.
Interestingly, Thakur would have to return to Ahmedabad from Jaipur by March 1 to join the Indian team for the five-match T20I series against England. Playing just his second Test, he put in an impressive all-round performance – seven wickets and a half-century – to shape India’s historic win in the fourth Test at Brisbane against Australia last month.
