Just like his other team-mates, he also took out his mobile phone, put on his earplugs, and started watching the live stream of the IPL 2021 Player Auction.
When Shahrukh’s name was announced by the auctioneer Hugh Edmeades, his team-mates looked at him and started cheering for him. The cheers grew louder when he was finally bought.

Shahrukh knew he would find a bidder at the auction, thanks to his impressive domestic show, but wasn’t aware that he would hit a jackpot and become a Crorepati.

From a base price of Rs. 20 lakh, the Tamil Nadu all-rounder was bought for a whopping Rs.5.25 crore by Punjab Kings, formerly Kings XI Punjab.
“I knew I would be picked but didn’t expect this much,” Shahrukh told Timesofindia.com in an exclusive interview.
“I was travelling on the bus when the auction was on. I finished the practice session and was heading to the hotel with my team. All my team-mates went crazy and started hooting when I was bought by Punjab. My teams-mates and my captain DK (Dinesh Karthik) came to me and congratulated me. It was an unbelievable feeling. I am really thankful to the Punjab team,” the 25 year old all-rounder further told TimesofIndia.com.

Shahrukh was part of the victorious Tamil Nadu team which won the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament this year, under the captaincy of Dinesh Karthik.
Shahrukh scored an unbeaten 18 off just 7 balls, with two boundaries, and a six in the final.
In the quarter final clash vs Himachal Pradesh, he came in at number 7 and smashed an unbeaten 40 off 19 balls, with 5 fours and two sixes in a tense run chase to take his team to a 5 wicket win.
“I would give credit to my domestic performances. That was an amazing experience to play under DK bhai (Dinesh Karthik). He gives a lot of confidence. He is a really talented captain. I bat with full confidence. I give myself time and watch a bowler carefully and then hit the ball,” he further said.
SHAHRUKH EXCITED TO MEET ‘UNIVERSE BOSS’ GAYLE, KL, AND KUMBLE
Shahrukh will get the chance to share the dressing room with the likes of KL Rahul and Chris Gayle at Punjab Kings.
During the domestic tournaments, Shahrukh has already met Karnataka batsman and Punjab Kings captain KL Rahul. But he is really excited to meet the ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle.
“I know KL Rahul and have met him a couple of times but I am very excited to meet Chris Gayle. He hits the ball so hard. He is a dangerous batman. I am really happy that I will be sharing the dressing room with seniors like KL and Gayle. I am really thankful to Punjab for showing faith in me,” Shahrukh told TimesofIndia.com.

“I am looking forward to meeting Anil (Kumble) sir and want to ask him a lot of things. It is going to be a huge learning experience for me. I will look to justify my place in the team. Big thanks to them, they took me in their team. I am sure I will deliver and will do my best for the team,” the 25-year-old further said.
Sharukh was in fact named after Bollywood star and KKR co-owner Shahrukh Khan by his family.
“My mom’s sister, my aunt is a big SRK fan and she always told my mother that if you are blessed with a boy, name him Shahrukh Khan. She is a die-hard Shahrukh fan. That’s how I got this name” the all-rounder said.
When asked what his reaction would be when he first meets Gayle, the 25-year-old said: I will just say – ‘My name is Shahrukh Khan and I play for Punjab Kings’
“I am excited to meet Preity Zinta ma’am also.”
