PUNE: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has allotted a visa to the lone entry from Pakistan – Usman Chand – to participate in the New Delhi ISSF World Cup. Chand will participate in the men’s skeet event and is ranked 108th in the world.
The MEA had denied visa to two Pakistani shooters in 2019 when the Capital last hosted ISSF World Cup, which offered quota places for the Tokyo Games. The World Cup was hosted a month after the Pulwama attack.
The political decision didn’t go well with the International Olympic Committee‘s (IOC) Olympic Charter and the IOC had revoked quotas from the men’s 25m rapid fire pistol, the event Pakistani shooters had sent their entries for.
The World Cup begins on January 18 at the Dr Karni Singh Shooting Ranges in the Capital. It will offer ranking points which will help top shooters secure ranking-based quotas for the Tokyo Games.
