MUMBAI: Left-arm pacer Arjun Tendulkar and seamer Krutik Hanagavadi were on Saturday added to the Mumbai squad for the league stage of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy. Arjun is the son of batting legend Sachin Tendulkar. The tournament, the first of a severely curtailed domestic season due to Covid, will kick off on January 10.
Mumbai is placed in Group E which includes Delhi, Haryana, Kerala, Andhra and Puducherry. They play their matches on January 11, 13, 15, 17 & 19. The knockouts will be held in Ahmedabad.
“Three days back, the BCCI allowed all the teams to pick 22 players, as all the players will be a part of a bio-bubble, and even net bowlers and replacements can’t be called up from outside. Arjun and Hanagavadi were thus added to the Mumbai squad as it’s 21st and 22nd members,” a source in the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) told TOI. Arjun has played for the India under-19 team, and for Mumbai for various age group teams previously.
Apart from Arjun and Hanagavadi, the speedsters in the Mumbai squad are Tushar Deshpande, Dhawal Kulkarni, Minad Manjrekar and Prathamesh Dake.
Mumbai will be without India batsman Shreyas Iyer, who suffered a shoulder injury during the Australia tour recently, for the league stage. The Salil Ankola-headed new selection committee has picked the in-form Suryakumar Yadav as the captain of the team, which will play all its league games on home turf from January 11. Experienced wicketkeeper Aditya Tare will be his deputy.
All the teams joined a bio-bubble at their respective venues on Sunday.
The revised Squad: Suryakumar Yadav (captain), Aditya Tare (vice captain), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Aakarshit Gomel, Sarfaraz Khan, Siddhesh Lad, Shivam Dube, Shubham Ranjane, Sujit Nayak, Sairaj Patil, Tushar Deshpande, Dhawal Kulkarni, Minad Manjrekar, Prathamesh Dake, Atharva Ankolekar, Shashank Attarde, Shams Mulani, Hardik Tamore, Akash Parkar, Sufiyan Shaikh, Arjun Tendulkar, Krutik Hanagavadi.
