PV Sindhu and Kidambi Srikanth suffered losses for the consecutive day of the BWF World Tour Finals in Bangkok on Thursday.
With two losses in two matches, the Indians may not qualify for the knockout stage.
While Sindhu lost in straight games against Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand 18-21, 13-21, Srikanth fought hard before going down to Tzu Wei Wang of Chinese Taipei in three games 21-19, 9-21, 19-21.
After winning the first game comfortably, Srikanth lost his rhythm after the change of courts in the second game. In the decider, the Indian worked hard and even saved three match points from 16-20 but was not able to clinch the match.
If Srikanth has to qualify, he should win his third round match against Ng Ka Angus of Hong Kong on Friday and expect the latter to beat Anders Antonsen on Thursday. Antonsen also should lose against Wang on Friday.
Meanwhile, Sindhu lost from a dominant position against Ratchanok. The Indian was leading 12-7 and 14-10 in the first game before the Thai made a splendid comeback to catch up with Sindhu at 14-14. Sindhu widened the margin again, but from 17-18 Ratchanok scored four straight points to take the game. In the second game, Ratchanok dominated the Indian.
To qualify for the next stage, Sindhu should expect Ratchanok lose on Friday and Tai Tzu Ying to win all her three matches.
